It's been a while.......
As the day loomed closer jokes were shared with Stephen Cooper (Director of the ParaCharity) that we could call the little man 'Catterick', especially if he did actually turn up on race day, which for a time looked likely!
Caz's waters broke late Saturday on the Eve of the Paras'10, actually on his due date, and for a while we did anticipate that the little man would indeed take his bow that day, but labour laboured and come Monday morning Caz was being induced as the little man was showing no signs of giving up the sanctuary of his mums body. 18 hours later come 0500 Tuesday morning, after watching my gorgeous wife, go through hell, but take it all in her stride, it was decided that the little man was coming out via the sunroof and 27 minutes later Charlie Lloyd Rushen made his sleepy entrance into the world to be born.
|My world.........taking each other in!|
It will always be heartbreaking that Charlie will never get to meet his special Uncle, but I know that our little man will always have a warrior protecting him, I can draw some comfort in that. And I know that through all those that knew and loved him, Charlie will know him.
This weekend marks the 16 weeks until the Winter Fan Dance, and I'm hoping that the weather is kind enough to be able to take Charlie with me and difficult enough to make the challenge as authentic as Ken wishes it to be. I guess come 2014, Charlie will be as much a fixture at the Fan Dance and Paras'10 events as I, I'm starting him early!
I'm sure that although I never made it to Catterick that Mrs R, coupled with my efforts at the Shot and Colly, is worthy of the 'Treble of Pain' T Shirt, she has the scar to prove it! However, unless within the next few months she lets me near her again, and the same thing happens again, I will be earning that accolade next year! If also, like me, you put in for the ballot for the VLM, it's coming up to notification time, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for us all - 2014 will be once again a year of great challenges, with great people!
It begins in January, see you at the Red Phone Box guys, train hard, fight easy........
Blue skies little brother, always in our hearts, love and miss you always (and thank you) xxx
